This is, I think, some sort of hawk moth—it doesn't show here, but it has a long thin proboscis, curved at the end for dipping into things like phlox (and this beebalm) with a tiny tubular throat. I keep trying to get a look at its wings for better identification, but I can't catch it being still long enough.
I guess she didn't find anything edible here; when I came back she was gone on to greener pastures.

What a little beauty, that one! And it looks so nice against that particular tree!

That looks like a Hummingbird Moth.
